Colour harmony explained
Complementary colours sit opposite each other on the colour wheel (e.g. blue and orange). They create maximum contrast and visual energy — ideal for call-to-action buttons and brand highlights.
Analogous colours sit adjacent on the wheel (e.g. yellow, yellow-green, green). They feel natural and harmonious, common in nature photography and calming brand identities.
Triadic palettes use three colours evenly spaced 120° apart. They're vibrant and balanced, popular in children's media, sports branding, and creative portfolios.
Monochromatic palettes use one hue at different lightness and saturation levels. They look clean and professional — a safe choice for dashboards, presentations, and minimalist design.
Split-complementary is a softer alternative to complementary: instead of the direct opposite, use the two colours adjacent to it. High contrast with less visual tension.
